THE Conservatory
The Conservatory
The purchase of 88 acres of land served an intial intent of being home to the Franklin County Fair. Later, in 1874 the Franklin County Agricultural Society seen both the potential and the importanc of the land, making a decision to purchase and additional 5 acres. Thereby creating it to be the original home of The Ohio State Fairgrounds.

With the Fairgrounds relocating further north, the abandonment of the acreage the Legislature deemed the open space as a public park in 1886. While the Chicago influenced glass horticultural structure was erected in 1895.
Know the park is still used as a public park, it also continues to host various events, festivals and weddings. The Park/Conservatory's beauty resurrected in the early '90s after the AmeriFlora exhibit!
Take a Look
This 49,000 sq ft building occupies 3.14 acres of the Oak St./Kelton cross-section. The lot formally was used to operate daily the streetcar system to trolley coaches in the mid 1900s.
The property was purchased for $6,800, by Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company a subsidary of American Electric Power in 1937
